I was experimenting about how to add my Brownies to the Guides waiting list and now one of my girls has two roles.
Both of the roles are Active - Brownie and one has a box next to it saying "end" but I can't click on it.
The girl is appearing twice in my unit list.
Help! What do I do?

You will need to refer that up to a county co-ordinator or to the GO helpline.
It is a problem with roles that become "tombstoned" that can only be corrected by a few people.

Right, will email Go helpline as I don't know who is our County coordinator.

You've probably realised this now but only the Guide Guider can add them to the Guide waiting list -the girl will have two roles but one in Brownies and one in Guides (waiting to join)

And you have hit a very good point there - validation measures should be in place to stop you making changes that are outside your permission levels.
I have set up all kinds of interesting combinations and then had to unravel them!

what does this tombstoned mean? I've been told one of my ex-adults that are on my leadership team is tombstoned and can't be removed and I didn't fully understand what they meant (only understood the bit that they've emailed chq to get someone else to do it)

The "tombstone" is the name given to an "end" symbol that does not work when you try and click on it, so effectively a dead button.
A lot were created when the system was first put live because the system was set up to look for dates which had expired on any appointments and end them - but because of the way it was done, the expired appointment was left live but with an "end" symbol next to it that does not work.
I have been trying to spot them all in my division to get them ended by GO administration but know that I have probably missed one or two.
And, I know I have one on my own appointments that has not yet been rectified - and the annoying thing is, it is an appointment that should have been extended and if it had been done on time, the tombstone would not have appeared.
