    New Programme - Discuss!

So far this term we have had 2 Rainbows miss two different meetings where we ran different SBs. They won't earn those badges. It's now the nature of the beast. Miss the activity, miss the badge. It'll be a fortunate Rainbow in our unit who will earn a theme award.

Undoing a mistake on website re new programme SB.

Can anyone tell me how to remove a 'completed' skills builder that I input by mistake? Have emailed CHQ but not hopeful of a speedy reply.

Did you mean the mask templates SN? I bought from Hobbycraft (10 for £1, elastic £2.20). The girls decorated them with felt pens. At the weekend I walked round our village photographing potential dangers (there were lots). Printed two images to an A4, then laminated. We stuck them round the...

Wish we had been given those lovely posters with the Guiding mag instead of the silly dice thing. We did the Rainbows' SB Safety Superheroes last night. I adapted it to make it appealing, which meant I had to spend extra time (and money) prepping, but so worth the effort. It took us over 45mins...

Don't do as I do, do as I say?

I personally do not like the lack of choice and flexibility (Willow post #49). I also have an activity where I totally disagree with some of the aspects (and will be running it differently) and feeding back to CHQ.

    New Programme - Discuss!

I understand folk pointing out that time is needed to see how the new programme works in 'real time' unit meetings. However, it doesn't take a genius to figure that a) a whole unit of girls doesn't start at the same time (they come and go at random terms) & b) for a balanced programme the themes...

I had the same thought the other day when I realised one of our Rainbows going on holiday for 2 weeks will miss our first SBs from our 2 themes. She will not get these badges when the others receive theirs, but hey that's the way the cookie crumbles. I'm not packing the meetings with SBs and...

At our first Rainbow meeting this term we chose two themes to get us started. However, after reading through all the SB on them, we're less than impressed with the lacklustre activities. Too much discussion/reading/writing. I thought Guiding wasn't meant to be like school. And don't get me...

Has GGUK effectively stamped out all these independent challenge badges do you think? I like the new resources, although I only have the one UMA taster pack and some that is questionable. The badge books look fab. One of my issues is the lack of input from the girls. SB are compulsory and we...

    Weekly Discussion: Life After Death

From the Guiding website: The Going Away With Licence The first four modules equip Leaders with the Going Away With Licence. This qualifies you to take girls away overnight or for two nights or more if programme, catering and facilities are already provided. Modules 1 to 4 cover: planning a...

    Weekly discussion- Professionalising Guiding

I wonder why Guiding is in such angst over this when Scouting seems to trundle along without seemingly a worry, doing what they've always done. My UH's children attend a Scouting group that does stuff we just aren't allowed to do in Guiding.

    Weekly discussion- Professionalising Guiding

I think it is a sign of the times that organisations have to show the regulatory bodies that the volunteers within are reasonably trained and competent. However in practise does it a) really stop that rogue leader who flaunts policy and b) provide the excellent grass roots units Guiding desires...

Last meeting before the October break, yay. One leaver and it happens to be her birthday! Also one girl making her Promise. It's a PJ, teddy bears' picnic with games night.

    Weekly Discussion XIX: Single uniform

If I remember correctly Australia have the same basic t-shirt type top but with different colour panels to distinguish the sections. I think that would be a good way to go. It's not going to happen if the Guides have just had a new design though.

As I mentioned in another thread; working longer hours but not answering phone or email queries. So not actually helpful to me. This week is Bring A mum. Plus sleepover meeting.
