    camp shop

Agree with the team what your policy will be on whether to stock sweets and drinks or not. Souvenir-wise, focus on simple low-cost items such as pens, pencils, cloth badges as your event-branded items, with perhaps a few more expensive items aimed more towards the adults. Consider the...

    Question? Taster session ideas.

Try to choose activities which are fun, but which are representative of the sort of thing they will get to do in the unit - and ideally a mix of different types of short activity - so they don't think they'll be doing the same type of thing every week as they did at the taster, whether craft...

    Strategy 2020

Problem is, we fear it being used as part of the process. Because most of us have been forced to give incorrect answers which do not reflect our views.

    Strategy 2020

Problem is, none of the questions in the first part bear much relevance to how I see it now, nor those in the second part to how I would like to see it in the future. And that appears to be the case for many of those responding (perhaps even most?) I fear it risks producing RIRO statistics.

Even if most deserve zero and the few worth any marks certainly don't deserve 10. That makes for an accurate representation.

    Weekly Discussion: Presenting badges

It depends on scale. For interest badges, Brownie Adventure/Guide Challenge Badges or Skills Builders, it would be ASAP, and in the circle/horseshoe at the end of the meeting. For BP we would have a special party night. Have yet to decide whether to do something extra for Theme Awards or...

Is there an option to spend fewer than 10 tokens, if doing so would mean giving items more than you felt they deserved?

    New Programme - Discuss!

Because it operates Commonwealth-wide, it's unlikely to change in the UK only, it would have to change in all the countries simultaneously. So any change wouldn't be directly linked to UK programme changes. When it's scheduled to be reviewed jointly by the relevant countries, I don't know.

Can we offer feedback on the inpenetrability, contrariness and lack of clarity in the wording of the questionnaire?

How are you progressing with UMA hours?

They have regularly asked for Leaders to submit ideas for future UMAs.

    Irked about ratios

Yes, that's it. One adult can supervise a group of Rainbows at Rainbow ratio, one adult can supervise a mixed group of Rainbows and Brownies at Rainbow ratio. The remaining Brownies can be supervised by the other staff, all at Brownie ratios.

How do I get paid to do this !

Take your current role in Guiding and create a list of the skills used. So do you manage a staff team? Do you lead training sessions? Are you confident at public speaking and presentations? Events organisation? Bookkeeping? Secretarial? Do you have outdoor adventure qualifications? Do...

What are you doing/done in your units this week? Part 4

This week the Brownies had a sports and games night, organised by our YL. The Guides Christmas-decorated the hall as Community Action. Last week the Brownies did the Market Place UMA, and the Guides had an outing to the local swimming pool.

How are you progressing with UMA hours?

For some, perhaps, if your girls are imaginative and keen to contribute. My units aren't great at contributing ideas, so for us that would be a painful tooth-drawing exercise at best, neither relaxing nor fun.

How are you progressing with UMA hours?

Nobody, but then it's not something I'm doing. We're doing UMAs regularly, interspersed with activities we'd have done anyway. We've recorded the UMAs the girls have done. But I haven't looked to see whether they are ahead on one topic as compared to another, whether it's entirely balanced or...

    New Programme - Discuss!

Yes, the plan is to spend around 60% of the time doing SBs and UMAs leaving around 40% of the time available to do activities of the unit's choice. UMAs do have to be the activities on the cards, and the girls' progress can be logged on GO. It counts the time on the card regardless of whether...

How are you progressing with UMA hours?

I wouldn't expect to give out any theme awards in the next 12 months - but then, the programme is meant to run for 2 years or more (depending on your section). Anyone who is due to move on within the next 12 months can use the transition option to try for Gold Award if they wish. If they opt...

Girlguiding survey: new uniform for YLs

Parents probably wouldn't know, the problem is, nor would anyone else. We had an incident happen at a joint event, several adults had to go and assist with it, leaving a minimal number of adults to supervise the main group of girls, temporarily. We later found out that, unknown to us, two of...

    New Programme - Discuss!

No, although that might occasionally happen perchance. My thinking was that in their last term I'd look to see what SBs/Theme Awards they were close to getting, and which one or two activities done in the unit would enable them to finish off. But not bothering to catch up any activities that...

    New Programme - Discuss!

The one thing I'm curious about is doing a catch up next term? Realistically, the only girls who need to do catch-ups are those who are almost 10 and in their last term. At that point you can see if there are any badges they are just a clause short of getting - maybe need to do one SB activity...
