Pack holiday hints, tips and ideas

I don't know if its been done before but I thought I would start a thread where we can share pack holiday ideas to give others a bit of inspiration.
    Here are my contributions:
Put cups with names of evening drinks on them. Each girl decorates a lolly stick and each night chooses their drink by putting the stick in the appropriate cup. Saves arguments.
Placemats - We make and laminate wipe clean placemats

  2. read the girls a story in bed with dimmed lights or allow them to read themselves then dim the lights then stay in room/outside dorms for some time after lights out to allow them to settle, its boring but leave too soon and they'll be chatting instantly.

if parents are bringing them have an activity, eg placemats, badges, diary cover ready to start as soon as they've unpacked encourage the parents to leave as soon as they are busy. if anyone is upset ask them to help an adult away from the others so not to spread the tears but integrate them as soon as possible

when parents pick up worn them before hand that although you understand they are desperate to see their daughters early arrivals will be asked to wait out off sight until closing ceremony/thankyous/brownie bells as its not fair on the girls or parents of those who turn up on time

Even if they are all in one room, get them to sleep in sixes. It makes it easier to wake cooks up earliest etc.

If anyone needs to be woken in the night, know which bed they are in, and how best to wake them up.

Make sure all girls know where to find the adults esp First Aider, at night.

Make sure girls have applied suncream to the backs of their necks. Get a friend to help if necessary.

Fill a water carrier (the sort with a tap on the front) with squash (and ice cubes if you like) so that they can help themselves to drinks throughout the day. It saves having to make drinks every 5 minutes and is easier for younger girls to manage than a jug.

For our recent Brownie Sleepover I ordered some nice paper carrier bags from the internet and then are their first activity when they were dropped off they had to decorate their bag ensuring their name was on it in large letters. This worked really well - even better that they hung them over the bunk beds so everything was quite neat and tidy. In order to get value for money I did end up ordering 50 bags but they unused ones are in my Brownie cupboard ready for using at next years sleepover!

We make a place mat with the graces you are gonna use on the holiday in the middle and a border of your theme, saves the girls saying they dont know them. i do them in black and white so they can decorate them before they get lamanated.

Also we make bed names, which really helps if they are all in a dorm, if you need to find someone in the night makes things so much easier. We laminate these too and usually attach with bag ties.
