Thread: YLQ qualification - Module 2

  1. YLQ qualification - Module 2

Just wondering if someone can clarify something for me. I've been going through the YLQ stuff with our young leaders (well, 1 so far - we had a mammoth signing session as she finally remembered to bring her book and the other gets her turn this week!) but something has me a bit confused.

Module 2, part 2 a which is 'Attend meetings and keep a note of what was discussed'. Before I subject the YLs to tedious division meetings can someone clarify for me if these meetings mentioned are division (we have no district meetings as we don't do districts as we're that small) or if it's on about regular unit meetings/unit planning meetings?

    Ta muchly.

My mentor said this was district meetings (well I'm doing ALQ but I think it's all the same wording isn't it) and so I've been going to them. There's another section about unit planning meetings I think in module 1 - I know I've got them signed off in my book somewhere too.

  3. Yeah, module 1 has about unit planning meetings but the bit that got me confused is where it adds in the additional evidence required for the alq and that's where it starts talking about attending district meetings and giving evidence. I seem to recall having to go to a division meeting for my ylq and alq but that was years ago and the programme has changed since then. Just though I'd be sure - the YLs have no problems with attending the div meetings but obviously with school work would rather not if they didn't have to!

  4. my YL's had to go to district meetings, only went once though!

Yes GeordieLass it does mean district meetings (or division in your case) , but I would say it only needs to be one, or two at most, and just make sure she jots down a few notes as to what was discussed, in addidtion to the minutes.

i did this a division / district meetings rather than unit meetings..because its under the "get involved with guiding at a local level" section isn't it? Thats all about being involved with other guiders etc

to gain my ALQ only had to attend one district meeting and keep notes/minutes - so surely the YLQ would be similar? (once you have ALQ/YLQ no one checks up on how many you attend - unless you are GiC of course, then to have to attend or get someone to attend to find out what is happening on your behalf!!!!)

My daughter has just completed hers recently and for this part she was allowed to use Minutes and her own notes from Planning Meetings for both Rainbows and Guides as she does both. Also as they had some input from her in the minutes about what she was doing for the meetings it shows that she is a committed team member. aswell as this it had details of all the Commnity Action stuff that we had been doing and when we had met up with other units in the district for joint events and stuff. Like the Launch Party and Girls on the Go etc
    Hope this helps

It is definately district meetings! As like someone else said, local level. Also, I went to the launch event for the YLQ, so I kind of know what it entails!
