    Default Suggestions for GO Database

I've seen a few suggestions for "changes" to GO to make it more user-friendly on this forum and thought it might be a good idea to collate them all together [so that someone can then forward them to CHQ to see if any of them are feasible/possible?)

    my suggestions for GO are:

when enterring new girl at RAINBOW, BROWNIE or GUIDE level (including waiting list levels) that "MISS" gets enterred automatically by the database and also "GIRL" (because none can be volunteers until they are old enough!)

The address Hunt option via postcode isn't working at the moment - that was quite useful as it saved lots of address writing (as long as can be over-ridden for waiting lists if we don't have address)

show girls DOBs in the VIEW ACTIVE YOUNG MEMBERS LIST (like they are shown for waiting lists) as its very useful for knowing when to give birthday cards and also knowing when to start preparing them for moving onto the next level in guiding without having to run a report (significant number of guidesr are having problems running reports because of the software they have or types of PC they have - so showing DOB would help this?)...

update REPORT facility so that it works on programmes other than IE (eg so can run on FIREFOX)

change REPORT facility so report comes up automatically in a "ready to print view" rather than having to use arrow keys to view it?

Have proper checks on the DOB (someone else has suggested this) so it is not possible to enter 1-year-old Guides or 52-year-old Rainbows. We know girls can be on a waiting list from birth but I'm not sure it even checks the DOB isn't in the future!

When a report is run, don't include ALL the alternate addresses (or give an option). I don't want to post things to everyone's granny and neighbour who is their alternative emergency contact!

Make it possible to completely remove an email address - I had to get rid of a bouncing one - the only way was to enter a dash.

Hi, a key one to add to the list is some validation around dates of birth, eg, if I try to enter a new rainbow to my active unit and the DOB would make her under 5 years of age, the system should pop and tell me what the error is, so I can correct - would save heaps of time for everybody.

Also when processing adults - should have one inactivate option that allows you tick - whether everything inactive or a particular appointment only.

If I think of any more will add them, but I agree you are right, we should submit a list of suggestions as a Forum.

For Rainbows it would be under 4, as it's almost certainly not clever enough to associate mainland UK vs NI with the DOB, but it is the same thing!

I think I've had to put a dash for other fields, too, when entering waiting list girls (phone number, from memory, as it was a parent who'd emailed me).

Good point - although it could be, if it was programmed properly!

I think it needs to remove the options of adding a Rainbow to a Brownie unit, etc. If I'm in my Brownie unit then only the options to add a Brownie whould be showing.

And from a Commissioner's point of view; when you have a 14/15 year old young leader who turns 16, the system should pop up a reminder, or better still email the DC to let them know that a CRB check is now required. I find it really hard to keep track of the YLs turning 16.

thats a fantastic idea - and under 7 check for brownies and 10 for guides... could exclude the waiting-list roles for the check and put the check on the main role entries

I know rainbows, brownies and guides have an "upper age" of 26, but that is very unusual... so could even do an age check of 7 or lower for rainbows, 10 or lower for brownies, 14 or lower for guides - with an "ARE YOU SURE" prompt for outside the "usual" upper range?

I agree, I have rainbow, brownie, girl and all the waiting list options under my RAINBOW role which I can select (and I should only be able to select rainbow and rainbow waiting-list?)

The dates of birth are in the system so should be able to "change colour" or something to show action needed?

would be nice if it did that for my rainbows when they were 6½ to remind me to start off POT OF GOLD...

GO allowed me today to enter "dont know" for telephone number for one girl I was putting onto my waiting list and for another girl "dont know" for the address - so perhaps this has been altered already? (I know before I had to make up ficticious details - well I input my own ones as I had to enter somethiing!)

Did you actually write "don't know" or did you leave it blank?

I'd rather leave it blank as then I can see where the spaces are. It's particularly annoying for fields you can make reports from (addresses and emails) as you end up trying to send to fake addresses.
