Thread: Big gig 2010

We were excited about the big gig too, we were thinking fusion would be a little like the party in the park opening we had for the centenary and decided we didnt want another day like that,

we have since realised that our county camp has an boy band performing one evening so maybe the other counties are organising a similar thing as part of camps instead of a big gig??

I think the dream is that Fusion will feel truly different to party in the park launches or even the big gig.

The vision of 30,000 members in the same place at the same time and the amount of entertainment that I understand are being planned should set it apart from anything we have ever been too before.

I just wonder whether it will deliver in reality. I understand ticket sales in my own locality are not as good as they might be and I don't know if this is reflected nationally. And, of course, I guide in an area that is not immense travel distance to event, so it can not be the travel that is deterring people.

I am definitely going to Fusion and hope it delivers the wow factor that it promises.

I was hoping that for once, we would be able to go. Events like Fusion, Centenary Camp and Big Gig are always in the southern half of the country. We appreciate that that's where the numbers are, and the fact that it's the same people who are within range of them is a natural by-product - these 'national' events just aren't for us. Guess we'll have to try and get tickets for Tartan Gig.

The Camp and fusion are as far North as I think things will ever get! I was pleased there's something in NEE for a change. Something north of the Midlands (I'm being generous here as I class anything south of 'Boro as 'south' lol) is a vast improvement in everything being right down south! I think that it's lack of definite info (in terms of what will be there/what's happening/what it is) that's putting the others in my unit off from going. That and it's the middle of a week so it means time of work.

I think Cazbly's post sums it up - I wonder if people are not going because they don't expect much because of past disappointments. But then if they don't get the numbers, then there just isn't going to be the money there to make it as good as it should be...

Half of my Guides are attending Centenary Camp so are already going to Fusion.
The other half - around 20, only 2 has comitted to Fusion. The rest, their parents wont commit to a one day event with quite a high cost within the school holidays. I have re-sent letters out again this week with a deadline for the end of Jan.
Hopefully some more will want to go.
I have been to every Big Gig since the first concert in 1999 when I worked backstage.
I will miss BIg Gig this year but I am going to look for a concert for my Guides.
I suppose there is only so mych Girlguiding can do and it is a busy year!!

it is a shame that there is going o be no big gig this year.
Last year was the first time i hd run an overnight event (incorporating Big Gig) and without a license i could only take 8, so there were lots of unhappy guides who couldn't come. I had promised that i would try and organise a big gig trip in 2010, even though i am leaving my unit in the summer, and it will probably end up closing (despite being full with a waiting list!) So now my girls won't be getting to go at all
I can't offer them fusion because i'm going to be in Sangam.

I agree, even from home near Leeds everything is pretty much in London!
