Default Raffles - rules? and info ?

As you know I am busily fundraising for Botswana

I am thinking of doing a raffle - are there any rules I need to know about!?

(we are planning one for a fayre event at the hall - but because of where the hall is/who it is linked to there are restrictions i.e. we can't offer prizes over a certain amount or certain items)

I was thinking of doing a sepearte one as well, with less restriction on prizes etc
So selling tickets to friends/family/work places etc?

    Any info muchly appreicated

Pompey Ranger, if you sell tickets before the event you will need to buy a licence & get a number, also there are fairly strict criteria dependant on your council, ours said we couldn't sell tickets in town, on a street, in a school playground or go knocking door to door, having said that it was worth it. If you do decide to do this we found printing our own tickets was better financially & I found a great site http://www.raffleprinter.com/ to help do this, but make sure you read the licence & get the correct wording for your area (we did this by adapting the info from a local hospice ticket)
If you are selling tickets at an event on the night no licence is needed.

As Foxi says, any raffles which aren't confined to a one-day event or less have to be registered with your local and have to have printed tickets (not just cloakroom tickets). It's best to get these done by an experienced printer who can help you with the wording to ensure it complies. Most councils have a charge, but from what I remember it isn't too painful!

I was going to mention licence too.

Our school does a raffle in the church, which is gambling and so it's called "Everyone's a winner". This means everyone who buys a ticket gets a sweet at the time of purchase!

Thanks guys - I thought there would be some sort of rules to follow

I shall have to contact the council and ask - any idea which department I need to contact?

i dont think you are supposed to sell to under 16's or ask them to sell them for you anymore as it is a form of gambling

I think raffles at the events you are allowed to sell to under 16's? but on a everyone wins basis as mentioned earlier in thread?
