    Wings 2009

My Guide GiC has suggested that next year we go to Wings 2009. I think she is keen to have an international camp experience before she retires and also thinks that the girls would love something different.

http://www.wings2009.org.uk/ (Berkshire Guides and Scouts international camp to be held at Windsor Great Park)

I think it's a great idea - and anything that reduces my organisational load at the minute is good by me...

so just wondered if anyone else was thinking of going or had been to previous ones?

I'm planning to put it to my guides in the next few weeks!

we primarily have a lot of youngish guides (10/11) who prob wouldn't be ready to go abroad (and i haven't either yet with guiding!) and so an international camp would be perfect. It's actually closer to home than when we go to Blacklands.
we have a few older ones too who I think would be interested and would give them a great taste of internationals before they go up to senior section.

plus I haven't a camp license (and I don't need one for this) and don't need to be county selected. to me the price seems fairly reasonable for an international camp actually, though we still have our unit camp as well next year.

  5. I'm going as staff i think, it looks like its gonna be a good camp

  8. WINGS is great.

2003 we camped and had quite a few youngsters but the subcamps are divided in to age brackets so it was fine. The activities are varied and the location is super. You can see the castle!

Yes its a lot of money but you get what you pay for. As everyone is a volunteer and no profit is made all the money goes on the camp.

We will be there in 2009 also with lots of youngsters. Have you watched the slideshow on the web site? We are in one of the photos of groups arriving for the opening ceremony.

Girls who attended say it has really stuck in their memory as a special time. They really remember the international visitors who they met and interacted with.

    See you there!

We took our guides in 2003 and they loved it!!! it was a brilliant week, well worth the money and so much easier to organise than a normal summer camp!!

in 2003 we took 15 guides aged 12-15. next year we are taking 25 guides aged 10-16.

we are planning to do some fund raising to lower the cost of it.

It sounds good! Think I will go ahead and register at least. we have had some quite successful fundraising lately so will aim to subsidise some of the cost for the girls so hopefully that won't put many off.

    Yay!
