Are there any games we can play with old Christmas Cards?

you can cut them into 8(or more) pieces, keep one piece from each then hide the rest then give each guide the one peice and get them to find all their pieces and make the picture

show them all the cards and get each patrol to come up with 10 questions, ie one with santa on, one with something beginning with m, the one with a plant thats also a girls name, then spread the cards at one end of the hall, number the girls in the patrol 1-6 and ask each question then ask a certain number to come find the right card

Put all the xmas cards in the middle of the floor picture side up and let each girl choose one at random, don't tell them why.

Then say you'll give a point to everyone who has "a star" on their card.
Then they put them all back and choose again and then maybe next its a robin, ..... and so on, a snowman, a xmas tree, an angel, etc.

It is always fun watching them trying to work out what you are going to choose next, amazingly a few of them go back and pick up one with what you chose last time !

My Rainbows love this game - we play it in teams so they count how many 'snowflakes/santas/trees' all together. It helps to have an adult nearby if they have lots to count! Mine also spend ages looking for the card with the most of the last category on - until they realise that you will not say the same item! lol

Space the cards around the room and play "Bring me a.." with one member of each team running to find a card with whatever you describe on. Some can simply be a snowman, others can be more complicated and only apply to one card.
Or, cut them all in half, put one half of each card on a table and the other halves on the floor. Each girl starts with one half and has to find the other part. Once they have found that they can go back to the table to get another and so on, whichever person or patrol to have the most at the end win.

Our Brownies love the Christmas Card game. We have a stock of christmas cards which have been cut in half (each half is numbered so we can sort them easily afterwards). all the 'one' piece get put on the floor in little piles around the room, and each six collects a 'two' piece from a leader and they have to find the matching piece. once they've found it they bring it back to the leader and collect the next piece.

they could honestly do it for hours they love it that much, and the brilliant thing is that whilst they're running around like mad, we have a young leader subtly putting the collected pieces back out on the floor so its endless :)

can even set up as challenge with clues of sorts? lay out all the cards and the girls have to work out which is number 1,2,3 etc probably 10 cards would be enough, don't want too many as would be too hard for the girls

and then write out clues... clues along lines of

number one has a robin on it
no even number has snow on it
there is no colour red on number two
numbers two and five have lots of glitter on them
number five have more than one tree on it

and of course, some clues will apply to more than one card, so its a bit of a team game/working together game too

just need to get an adult to check the clues work before you do them with the girls

We played this last night with Rainbows - for the whole meeting! I kept trying to end it but they wouldn't agree kept asking for more. sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.
