I've been twice - but would consider going again (not defnately - as I have to decide what I definately want to do in 2010 - can't do everything! LOL!:) If I do come, I'm another one who can only do school holidays.

Re: GIC - if everyone going is an adult, then you don't need a GIC, 1st aider, international license etc - everyone can be responsible for themselves:) When I went with a group of adults, we found the easiest thing to do was for everyone to book their place at the chalet individually - that way, no one was responsible for having to collect payments/cover payments if anyone dropped out, late comers could join in easily as everyone booked independently - it also meant we all got the info through from the chalet, rather than one person having to be responsible for passing info to and fro! We set up a Yahoo group to discuss travel etc. I'm doing it the same way with Sangam.

It might be difficult to book into the chalet in a holiday week in 2010 (although I had no problem when I went in 2006 or this year, but 2010 might be busier). If so, it might be worth staying at Kandersteg and just visiting the chalet - they have capacity for over 200 (nearer 300 I think!). I stayed there for a couple of nights the first year I went to Switzerland - and it's a nice centre - and it's quite a bit cheaper than the chalet.

Date wise - what about going February half term - the same time as the 'Guides take over Switzerland' centenary activity? We could gatecrash, or at least watch the lantern parade with 1000+ guides?

hey, seeing as I started the Centenery G2G thread off you can guess I'm up for going!

While Thinking Day would be cool I equally wouldn't want to gatecrash the Guides - maybe easterish might work better for hols (greater choice of dates prob).

Happy to help look into things as it were.............

*wonders if she's accidentally volunteered herself now.....*

May half term could also be a good option. If we went Easter I don't think there would be a programme running - we'd have to organise ourselves (which is what I did in 2006)! I went this May and took part in the adult programme week - which was brilliant:) 2009 the adult high adventure week is in May half term again. There are no dates on the chalet website yet for 2010 (I've just looked!) but if the adult high adventure week is May half term again - then I'd highly reccomend it - it was a good mix of hiking, challenge, day trips - good fun all round:)

Having been as a bed and breakfast guest in 2006 and a programme participant this year, I def think the programme is a better option. We were only a small group - and no internationals which was a shame - but with a bigger group, I'd imagine its even better.

May half term is usually the same week in all LEA's.

I guess it depends what people want from the week whether Easter hols or May half term is a better option.

Easter hols would be organising own activities, less chance to mix with the staff/volunteers, less likely to be other groups there. But the advantage would be you could go for two weeks and might get snow if lucky (there's not usually snow that late - but went I went in 2006 it snowed the whole time I was there - very exciting - and how I've always pictured the chalet:)

May half term - if it is adult high adventure week - going for a programme week would mean everythings organised, (we'd get to know the volunteers as they run all the activities and do a brilliant job) so would meet at least some international guiders.

When we wrnt in May the programme wasn't compulsory - some people were still there as B and B, so if that was the same, people could have the option of programme or not, and still be there the same week and able to socialise in the evenings.

The only prob with half term, though, is that different LEAs sometimes have different holiday weeks. And the Scottish school year is odd and they don't have half term in May. I kept trying to point out to my Guides when I was a Guider in Aberdeen that they should complain about the fact they get less school hols than the rest of the UK!!

I'd love to go ... but I can't forward plan that far ahead as I have no idea of what job I'll be doing and as a result don't know about being able to get time off or how flexible it will be ... and probably won't know until the summer. I'll just have to wait and see!

I'd love to go, and providing my funds will allow, I really will consider it. However, I'm gutted to say they probably won't :(

Two world centres in one year is probably being greedy though, and I have been to Our Chalet twice before I suppose.

If you guys want a contact for a good group accomodation place to stay (right at the bottom of the hill from Our Chalet and Adelboden village, and reasonably priced!) then just PM me and I can get a number for you. The owner is a very good friend of my GIC and our guiding district in general!

Same here! Which world centre are you heading to in 2010? I'm planning Sangam! It's the only one I've not yet been to! It looks like Easter is going to be the best option dates wise for a G2G at the chalet - in which case, I'm unlikely to join you - as if I go anywhere at Easter, it's likely to be Our Cabanna:)

I would love to go but as I'm not a teacher or a student I don't get as much annual leave and I intend to use all 20 measley days I do get with my units in 2010 trying to give them that mountain top moment!

    Maybe another time! :)
