There appears to be threads about badges and activities and influential sporting women and one about offering to help out at the olympics and one more recently about whether the torch would be coming near where we live, but now that the olympics is getting nearer, there didn't seem to ONE CENTRAL thread where we could all post about olympics and what is happening and share our thoughts etc???? So thought I'd open one and hope that its ok with the mods????

just seen article that the London Olympic Stadium has now been officially opened.

Not long now... less than 83 days to opening ceremony according to the countdown clock

and the torch relay starts 19th May at Lands End (less than 2 weeks away)

GGUK should have a page on the website that WAGGGS members around the world could view.
Sort of Guiding in the UK in a nutshell, with some great visuals. I'm assuming, with interest in the London Olympics, members around the globe will tap into the website looking for info about this country.

THAT is a wonderful idea... maybe you should suggest it as there is STILL time to get it in place :) or at the very least the links to the girls pages - rainbows, brownies, guides etc could be made more prominent

I've just given the Olympics it's own sub-forum and move this and other threads into it. Should help a bit.

Also don't forget the tag Olympics will give you results of all forums as this Events one should only be for discussions. Any Challenges and Badges should still be within their appropriate forums.

new tower revealed in olympic park today

says they are hoping the tower will attract 1m visitors a year to Stratford's Olympic Park - think I'd like to go up tower and take a look at the view too! has a lift :) - 35 stories high! yikes - that is a lot of steps!.

With a height of 114.5 metres (376ft), it is apparently the tallest sculpture in the UK

and at end of july will be able to go up it to get a panoramic view across london

I really couldn't give two hoots about the Olympics. I don't really like televised sports and the thought of those crowds make me feel ill to be honest. I would go on holiday but the airports will be manic, so I think I'm going to take to my bed instead and hope the 3 weeks pass quickly! Am I the only one who doesn't have any interest in the Olympics?

I'm going to the Paralympic games, which is going to be quite a challenge for me, but looking forward to it. I love sport, don't like the money and politics.....but there's not much of that in Judo! It's never on the telly either!

why are there always some people trying to spoil things for everyone else?

does anyone else like me, think the security guard uniforms look a little like the brownie uniform? lol

Some people are very angry about the Olympics though, the money spent, the Londoncentricity, the shops and homes bulldozed to make way for the Stadia....

I think it's a shame people are trying to sell them. Think it's a bit of an honour to carry it and if you do you should keep it. Even if it does look funny on the mantelpiece. Not many people will have one so - a bit sad really ]=
